Case study

Context

A hotel interior needs clear guest navigation without disrupting its warm material atmosphere.

Research Question

How can wayfinding guide guests clearly without disrupting the interior atmosphere?

Spatial Strategy

Align icons, materials, and sign proportions with timber, bronze, and ambient lighting.

Outcome

A wayfinding system covering iconography, sign families, material mockups, and spatial tests.

This project is a wayfinding and signage system designed for a hotel interior, developed from initial concept through to spatial visualisation.

The work covers the full guest journey, from arrival at the lobby through to room corridors, amenity floors, and service areas. Each sign type was developed to sit within the hotel's material language: warm timber panelling, brushed bronze finishes, and ambient lighting. The iconography was drawn as a unified family, ensuring the system reads consistently at every scale and touchpoint across the property.

The 3D renders were produced as an integral part of the design process rather than as a final presentation step. Visualising the signage in context allowed me to test legibility at distance, assess how each element reads against the surrounding materials, and refine proportions before the designs were ready for fabrication.
